From Haloes to Galaxies. III. The Gas Cycle of Local Galaxy Populations

چکیده
In Dou et al., we introduced the fundamental formation relation (FFR), a tight between specific star rate (sSFR), H2 efficiency (SFE), and ratio of to stellar mass. Here, show that atomic gas H ? does not follow similar FFR as H2. The SFEH? sSFR shows significant scatter strong systematic dependence on all key galaxy properties have explored. dramatic difference indicates different processes (e.g., quenching by mechanisms) may very effects in galaxies hence produce SFEH?–sSFR relations, while SFE–sSFR remains unaffected. fact is independent other properties, directly related cosmic time acts clock, make it natural simple study how populations (with undergoing processes) evolve same ? t relation. regulator model (GRM), evolution SFE–sSFR(t) uniquely set single mass-loading parameter . This simplicity allows us accurately derive supply removal rates local with masses, from star-forming process being quenched. combination GRM, together metallicity requirement, provide new powerful tool evolution.

chapter i provides an overview of structural linguistics and touches upon the saussurean dichotomies with the final goal of exploring their relevance to the stylistic studies of literature. to provide evidence for the singificance of the study, chapter ii deals with the controversial issue of linguistics and literature, and presents opposing views which, at the same time, have been central to t...
15 صفحه اولMassive Elliptical Galaxies : from Cores to Haloes
In the context of recent observational results that show massive ellipticals were in place at high redshifts, we reassess the status of monolithic collapse in a ΛCDM universe. Using a sample of over 2000 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, by comparing the dynamical mass and stellar mass (estimated from colours) we find that ellipticals have 'cores' which are baryon-dominated within the...
متن کاملStellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

Galaxy Populations and Evolution in Clusters Iii. the Origin of Low-mass Galaxies in Clusters: Constraints from Stellar Populations
Low-mass galaxies in nearby clusters are the most numerous galaxy type in the universe, yet their origin and properties remain largely unknown. To study basic questions concerning these galaxies we present the results of a survey designed to constrain the characteristics and properties of the stellar populations in a magnitude complete sample of low-mass cluster galaxies (LMCGs) in the center o...
